First Book Review of 2016! Legacy of Kings

One of the best books I've read...maybe my favorite for 2016! This is why I am starting this year with this book review!

Legacy of Kings
by Eleanor Herman

Legacy of Kings (Blood of Gods and Royals, #1)

Summary From Goodreads:
Imagine a time when the gods turn a blind eye to the agony of men, when the last of the hellions roam the plains and evil stirs beyond the edges of the map. A time when cities burn, and in their ashes, empires rise.

Alexander, Macedonia’s sixteen-year-old heir, is on the brink of discovering his fated role in conquering the known world but finds himself drawn to a newcomer…

Katerina must navigate the dark secrets of court life while hiding her own mission: kill the Queen. But she doesn’t account for her first love…

Jacob will go to unthinkable lengths to win Katerina, even if it means having to compete for her heart with Hephaestion, a murderer sheltered by the prince.

And far across the sea, Zofia, a Persian princess and Alexander’s unmet betrothed, wants to alter her destiny by seeking the famed and deadly Spirit Eaters.

This book, written in the vein of Game of Thrones, but for teens is incredibly solid and well-written.  Herman introduces the characters one at a time, and as their lives gently, or in some cases forcefully intervene with one another, Herman creates a story that every reader will fall in love with.  This book has a little of everything--love, betrayal, adventure, fighting, magic, heroes and heroines, duty, honor, and more!

There are characters you will love right off the bat, and characters you will know are terrible people.  But then there are those characters Herman only introduces to you slowly that you can't be quite sure about until the end of the story when you learn their whole background.

I don't think I have one bad thing to say about this book, except that I'm toooooo impatient to wait for the second installment of this series that doesn't come out until June 28, 2016...the publishers haven't even made a cover! Get down to the library and get this book NOW!
