Book Review: Vault of Dreamers

Caragh O'Brien has a new series, SQUEEEE!!! The Birthmarked Trilogy was an awesome read, and I was super excited to pick up her next one:

The Vault of Dreamers
by Caragh O'Brien

The Vault of Dreamers (The Vault of Dreamers, #1)

The Forge School is one of the most prestigious arts schools in the country.  And those who are students are filmed live as a reality show, where their merit and rank at the school is determined by those who watch the show.  The futures of these kids are determined by strangers.

But when Rosie Sinclair hides the pill in her gums, the pill that puts all of the teens to sleep for 12 hours every night, she gets up in the middle of the night, and starts to see things that confuse and astonish her--are the owners of the school telling the truth? What keeps happening to the teens that they take to the lab at night when they are sleeping?

I originally picked out this book because O'Brien wrote the Birthmarked Trilogy, and I thought that series had an awesome premise, and I devoured the books in a week.  The other reason is the fact that this story combines a dystopian-like setting with a reality show.  Reality shows are ALL over television now, and the viewers ONLY see what the film crew want you to see--there is so much going on behind the scenes.  Now, I'm not saying there is an evil conspiracy behind OUR shows, but in this book--yes. There is.

Rosie deals with deciding who to trust at the school--a lowly cook that helps her impress the viewers so they vote her to stay at the school after the first cuts, or the genius, kind student whose family created the pill that puts the teens to sleep at night.

The dean of the school is such a two-faced person, and you almost want to believe what he is doing is good, but you are never really convinced with the way he treats Rosie and the other teens.  This story leaves you wondering if the end really DOES justify the means??

Can't wait for Book #2!
The Rule of Mirrors (The Vault of Dreamers, #2)
