Book Review: Sweet

From the Monument 14 author, comes another totally sweeeet new series!

Sweet
by Emmy Laybourne

Sweet

Laurel was begged by her best friend, Viv, to go on an all-expense paid cruise--only one catch--it's a cruise to lose weight. The new diet powder, Solu, is all the rage, and to kick off the upcoming launch, the creators of this miracle drug are hosting a cruise for the first 500 customers to try it out!

Tom Fiorelli, heartthrob of television gets to host a TV documentary about the cruise, but hates every minute of it...and he doesn't buy into this new drug.  He also doesn't believe Laurel needs it (*wink wink)

But when all the passengers who have taken the powder with their food start acting weird...and violent, the miracle weight loss drug goes from miraculous to addictive and dangerous.  Can Laurel and Tom fight the masses of violent dieters in time to get word to the mainland?

This book was a one-nighter read.  Emmy Laybourne is such a talented author.  She writes what appeals to teens, and she does it in a way that isn't completely coated with sugary sweetness or droll that makes it the same as every other YA book.  She takes certain ideas that have been thought up before, and she creates a whole new twist to each situation.

I have not read a book like this before, that I can think of, and I really like the message Laybourne is sending out about weight.  Laurel is curvaceous, but she is confident and her confidence in her appearance is part of what intrigues Tom Fiorelli.  Being a little overweight or curvy, but confident and smart is WAY above being a size 0 and shallow, always worrying about your weight.

Thank you Emmy for this great story! I hope all the teens come get this at the library! I have heard there will be a book 2 :D
