Book Review: Kin

Finished this series! It's loosely based on some of my favorite fairy tales--but now they are teens and trying to get through life in their own skin--and they're all friends!

Kin
by Lili St. Crow

Kin (Tales of Beauty & Madness, #3)

Ruby has seen her two friends go through way more than any teen ever should--but maybe that's what happens when they wield the power they do.  But now it's Ruby's turn.  She is part of the clan and her grandmother is Clanmother and Ruby is now expected to marry well, join the clans, and lead them.  But Ruby is a rebellious girl, one who doesn't want the burden and pressure of leading her whole clan.

But when Conrad comes to town to meet her and form an alliance through marriage with Ruby, she begins to think her lot in life may not be as bad as she thought--until people around her start turning up dead...via an axe.

Ruby has secrets, sure, but Conrad seems to have more than his share, and when their relationship starts suffering because of it, Ruby has to stand up, gain her independence and fight back for the good of her kin.

What a great way to end this series!  The first two books were about Ruby's friends, Cami and Ellie, and the way St. Crow ties in these three fairy tales was magnificent! Readers get a little bit of a love story, a little bit of mystery, and retelling of classic folktales and fairy tales.

You think you know the characters, and you know something is off about Conrad, but you root for him...and Ruby, because you want the clan to remain strong, but this book leaves you reeling from the clues that are left behind and the betrayals.

You won't want to miss this ending!
