Remember Today: 9/11/01

If you're a teen reading this, you're probably too young to remember or understand what 9/11 was and what it meant for our country.  Oh, you probably learn about it in school, but it's REALLY difficult to understand the gravity of the situation unless you remember it happening--even more so if you were an individual related to anyone in those buildings or someone working to save them.

I was a freshman in high school, and even I didn't understand what was happening or what it truly meant that there were planes flying into buildings in New York.

What I came to realize, as a 13 year old, is that America--the powerhouse country that it is, is vulnerable.  We are a strong nation, but there are weaknesses people and groups of people can exploit if they try.

But what I also realized, was that a national tragedy like this will strengthen our country, not defeat it.  Our nation became stronger and worked together more than it ever had in my lifetime.  So we pray for the families of those lost in this tragedy and we salute the men and women working tirelessly to clean up, save lives, and give closure to families, and we remember that we ARE strong and we will continue fighting for freedom and what's right.

You all may be to young to remember what today is all about, but I hope you will listen in your History classes today to try and picture exactly what 9/11 meant and still means today.

God Bless.
